Ecobeat Renegade is a DIY, off-grid camping music festival celebrating talented DJs and producers from DC, Baltimore and beyond. Ecobeat is also an exercise in community activation and healing minds/bodies in a resource-scarce world outside of capitalism. Like an ecosystem, Ecobeat exists in a delicate balance of both natural and unnatural forces that requires physical, mental and emotional energy to sustain itself.
Ecobeat values:
Peace
Love
Unity
Respect
Responsibility
Ecobeat was inspired by the Buddhist concept of dana, or giving back without expectation, and the many donation/volunteer-based Vipassana meditation centers across the world. Those who give back to Ecobeat, especially in more than material ways, are supporting the power of music in nature to unite and heal for others. We are stronger in our interconnectedness, and helping Ecobeat nurtures seeds of connection in our ecosystem. Participating in Ecobeat, even as an attendee, comes with responsibility. Responsibility for your actions, the wellbeing of others, and the sanctity of the land.
When you come to Ecobeat, please lend a helping hand wherever you can. We need leaders, and people who give as much or more to Ecobeat than what they take from it. Everything you see/hear/eat at Ecobeat was hauled over rocky terrain and needs to be hauled out. We must leave no trace. Be mindful of your own waste, the items that you brought to Ecobeat, and how to take them back out. Leave Ecobeat cleaner than how you found it.
Respect. There is no tolerance for racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, harassment, violence, intimidation, or non-consent.
Loud music and partying is illegal at the campground, and we’re in a residential area. Don’t bring unnecessary attention to Ecobeat when you arrive and leave. Don’t park in residential spots. This is a 21+ event and no alcohol or smoking is allowed at the campsite or near the trail. Ecobeat is on public land, and policed. Police came to Ecobeat 5 due to a noise complaint, and this can’t happen again. Be discreet. We want to be friendly to the neighbors so we can continue sound-bathing in the woods at Ecobeat for as long as possible.
Participate in Ecobeat at your own risk. Ecobeat has a lot of safety hazards: rocks, fires, cliffs, darkness. It’s easy to lose your footing. Take care of yourself and each other, and come prepared with flashlights, drinking water, adequate gear for the elements. Basic first aid supplies and fire safety gear will be available, but more is always welcome.
The sixth Ecobeat is almost here, and I hope you can join us for another real one with the real ones. Long live the underground, and long live Ecobeat!
